about
This song is inspired by the LP 'New Boots and Panties' by Ian Dury and what happened when I brought it home in 1978 and played it loud on the family stereogram. The Dury track 'Plaidstow Patricia' starts with probably the five worst swearwords and my grandma and dad weren't impressed!
lyrics
King of Boots (Kicking Punk Rock to the Masses)
Oh London man, You’re the king of boots, Ooooh
Ian Dury, Billy Fury, sweet Gene Vincent
Clever Trevor, never never, Sweet Gene Vincent
My old man and my Grandma Listening in the front parlour
Goodness gracious, did you hear that?
He sang naughty naked nude.
Oh London man, You’re the king of boots, Ooooh
Ladies panties, pearly fancies, sweet Gene Vincent
Sex and drugs and Toby jugs and sweet Gene Vincent
Grandma makes a right hoo-ha At filthy Plaidstow Patricia
Goodness gracious, did you hear that?
He should wash his dirty mouth out.
Oh London man, Oh London man
King of the East End, New Boots and Panties
Kicking punk rock to the masses.
Sorry Grandma, Sorry Dad and Joyce and Vicky,
Turn it down, I’ve seen that frown, the air’s gone tricky
All my brain and body needs turning on my new LP
King of the East End, New Boots and Panties
Kicking punk rock to the masses.

Ruth Po! set up her own record company and writes incisive songs from an ordinary female perspective. Themes are often dark
yet the tunes are singable, jangly and very English-sounding.First formed in 1987 with punk roots and an indie-pop style, PO! is not a typical band. After a Peel session and an NME single of the week, Ruth gave it all up 1999-2016 but the band are back with new songs!...more

This is music that softly, gently, melodically improves the atmosphere. I first heard Rachel via The Dolly Mixture. That music helped me find beauty while living in a rough childhood home. I later ran away, taking my Dolly Mixture cassette with me. Many decades on, life's difficult, the world is troubled, but Rachel's music once again adds an element of beauty. Her music is something to cherish. Cheers, Rachel. Andy Waltzer

This is absolutely beautiful! I am so happy the Under the Bridge releases led me down this road. It's unexpectedly spacious and just makes me happy! It's very hard to pick a favorite and I will not be skipping tracks as I play through this repeatedly. zq9mare1

What a joy to find this on bandcamp, having missed out on the vinyl rerelease. I'd only heard Strawberry Window prior to this, but I love that song and have done since first hosting it on Radio Scotland, back in the late 80s. This is exactly my kind of music, layered, anthemic guitars and great melodies. At times, it brings to mind another great lost band, The Train Set. Fabulous stuff. richardw27
